Dubai viral chocolate dates made healthier and better
If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve probably seen the Dubai viral chocolate with dates. It’s been everywhere, especially during Ramadan. While the original version is undeniably delicious, I found it way too sweet. Even the healthier version with dates that has been trending lately still didn’t quite hit the balance I was looking for. So, I took it upon myself to create a much healthier, more balanced version, one that keeps all the indulgence but without the sugar overload.
The secret? Using unsweetened pistachio paste instead of the sugary store-bought one. Plus, incorporating fresh Iranian dates, crispy kataifi pastry, and just the right touch of high-quality chocolate. This recipe brings the perfect balance between sweet, nutty, and crispy, making it a treat you can enjoy guilt-free!
Why this recipe is healthier
✅ No added sugar – I used naturally sweet Iranian dates, which have an intense caramel-like flavour without the need for extra sugar.
✅ Unsweetened pistachio paste – Instead of the usual sugary pistachio cream, I used pure pistachio paste from Eataly Market in Stockholm (the best shop ever!).
✅ Less chocolate, more balance – A drizzle of high-quality dark chocolate instead of a thick coating means you get the rich flavor without excessive sweetness.
✅ Crunchy kataifi pastry – Fried until golden and crispy, this gives the perfect texture without unnecessary sugar or additives.
The ingredients for the Healthier Dubai chocolate dates
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I laid out all the ingredients on a table for you to see.

- 10 fresh dates (or any soft Medjool dates – make sure they don’t have a sugar coating)
- 4 tbsp unsweetened pistachio paste
- 2 tbsp double cream
- 1 handful kataifi pastry
- 50g high-quality dark chocolate, melted
- A pinch of sea salt
- 1 tsp butter (for frying kataifi)
How to make the Dubai viral chocolate dates
1️⃣ Prepare the Kataifi Pastry – In a pan, melt butter and fry the kataifi pastry until golden and crispy. Let it cool.
2️⃣ Make the Filling – Mix the unsweetened pistachio paste with double cream until smooth.
3️⃣ Prep the Dates – Cut each date open and remove the seed, making space for the filling.
4️⃣ Fill the Dates – Mix the crispy kataifi with the pistachio-cream mixture and stuff each date generously.
5️⃣ Chocolate Drizzle – Melt the dark chocolate and drizzle it lightly over the stuffed dates.
6️⃣ Final Touch – Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt for a perfect contrast to the sweetness.
